TEACHING

Jamie discovered the joy of teaching music and mentoring individuals and groups of all ages more than 20 years ago. He currently offers private lessons in guitar, bass, drums and ukulele in Chester and the Hantsport area.

For ten years, he was the coordinator/instructor of Plug Into Music, a youth program in New Ross where participants learned to write their own songs. Jamie recorded them on CD and organized a community performing showcase at the end of the year. He often got guests to come in and encourage the students or tell stories. These included Joel Plaskett, Old Man Luedecke, El Jones, Andy and Ariana and the Hupman Brothers.

He has been instructing children and youth with Musical Friends since 2020, and also teaches the Shorejammers ukulele group at Shoreham Seniors Village, both in Chester. These groups give live performances in the area and the seniors particularly say the fun and connection of their time together is almost as beneficial as learning the music.

PLUG INTO MUSIC program for youth, New Ross, NS 2007-2017
“Jamie is an outstanding educator. One of the qualities Jamie has mastered is his natural ability to draw out the best abilities in all those he works with.”
— Diane Webber, former ED, New Ross Family Resource Centre
“Jamie wonderfully emulates the relaxed vibe of garage-band musicianship, with a true technical ability that meets and encourages students. His jam-style lessons are excellent for hands-on learners especially. He makes quality use of the students’ time... I’ve come to know Jamie both as my sons’ music teacher, and experienced him as a children’s performer, in which his sing-along session for kids became a haven of celebration! He shared guitar, and through his presence, brought children into a connected music experience. So excellent!”

“Jamie is an excellent teacher. He can teach those with aspirations of a professional career, but just as ably, he teaches youth who are learning music just to gain self-confidence and a sense of accomplishment. ”
— Dawn Harwood-Jones, Production Manager, Musical Friends
“My experience with Jamie teaching me guitar has been nothing but always good lessons and I’ve loved learning guitar even more by him teaching me. He has a great sense of humour every single lesson and he makes learning guitar or any instrument so much fun and better.”
