ADDICTED TO YOU
I'm addicted to the past and I’m addicted to the now
Addicted to the why and I’m addicted to the how
And I’m addicted to the moment when you walk through the door
And the music that our laughter makes when we slide down to the floor
And I’m addicted to you, I’m addicted to you
I’m addicted to the feeling and the silence in the woods
Swimming underwater well I’d live there if I could
Addicted to the coffee, cigarettes and the rain
Addicted to the pleasure I’m addicted to the pain
And I’m addicted to you, I’m addicted to you
I’m addicted to a planet that is swirling down the drain
Addicted to the heat of love and bursting into flame
Addicted to the abstinence and constant need for more
Addicted to the cause and I’m addicted to the cure
And I’m addicted to you, I’m addicted to you
I’m addicted to the limits of what we can endure
The thought of lasting peace on earth and agony of war
Addicted to forbidden fruit, afflicted to the core
And even more addicted to what I try to ignore
And I’m addicted to you, I’m addicted to you
Grubby fingers in the soil and gazing at the moon
Summer breeze and watermelon, endless days in June
The ice upon the river while underneath it flows
The cold side of the pillow and the freshly fallen snow
I’m addicted to the memory of being young and pure
Addicted to the scratch and lose I pick up at the store
Addicted to the meaning and meaningless of life
Addicted to the fear of death and beauty of the light
And I’m addicted to you, I’m addicted to you
ORIGIN STORY
This song started with a ukulele riff. The uke is such an easy instrument to jam and create with, mainly because it is small and unobtrusive and it only has 4 strings (and of course because it sounds so good).
The bulk of the lyrics were written while I was waiting for a gig to start at the Al Whittle Theatre in Wolfville, NS. It was a sunny warm-ish evening and I was sitting on some steps across the street from the venue with my uke, pencil and paper.
By the time I got home that evening I added it to my song book. May 5, 2011
