ADAM'S SONG

When you stepped off into space, were you tired of being chased?
By demons real and perceived
You were searching you found sweet release
My beautiful dreamer you’re in my dream
My ramblin’ boy you will always be
In my heart, a photograph
Your green eyes and your laugh, your contagious laugh
I want you back

You danced like you had no bones
You sang like an angel when you felt at home
But you could not rest even though you tried
Your feet were loose but your hands, your hands were tied

Run Adam run, now that your running is done

I hope you found a place in the sun
So I can feel you shine down on me
You are the rain you are the breeze
Your song is whispered in the trees
I am home now I am free

Run Adam run, now that your running is done
I hope you find a place in the sun

ORIGIN STORY

My cousin Adam was my best friend growing up in Chester, Nova Scotia.  He was a year older than me and the leader in most aspects of our life except for maybe getting in trouble which was when I was in charge.  He was super smart and funny and imaginative and musical and fun.

As Adam grew older he started hearing voices and became a compulsive wanderer. His wanderings ended on a street in Toronto after having fallen off a building. We don’t know if it was intentional or a misstep.

I reference two songs:  Beautiful Dreamer and Ramblin’ Boy. We used to row around the Front Harbour, intoxicated teenagers, singing these and other songs. He really had a lovely voice.

It’s weird, I always thought he had green eyes until his brother Simon told me they were in fact, blue. I continue to sing green eyes as I find it sounds better.
